Teaches students how to stage their home to reduce risks of home invasions, principles of self defense in a home, defensive mindset, psychological reactions, physiological reactions, and dealing with the aftermath of a defensive shooting.

This class teaches students the defensive mindset needed to use a gun in self defense, how to minimize the risks of their home being a target for a home invasion, setting up safe areas, what to do if their home is broken in while they are at home, the law related to use of deadly force in defending their home, and the consequences of having to shoot an intruder.
Students must have their own pistol or revolver that is a minimum caliber of 9mm or .38 Special, 100 rounds of factory loaded ammunition, electronic ear protection, and eye protection. Holsters are not permitted in this basic class. Students will receive the 200+ page NRA Basics of Personal Protection in the Home hard bound book when taking this course. Students must first take the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Phase I & II or have had equivalent previous training.
You must register at least 14 days in advance of class. If less than four people pre-register the class will be cancelled and deposits refunded. Late registrations taken if NRA Instructor has extra NRA training materials on hand.
